I cut them in half (use a big, strong knife), and cleaned out the seeds. I gave them a healthy dose of pepper. Then, I placed a slice of thick cut bacon in each half. I popped them in the oven at 325, and I’ll let them bake until the squash is soft and the bacon is crisp. The bacon grease will soak into the squash. So yummy.

A friend has suggest olive oil and sage, which I might try in the future.

This weekend during a poetry reading, a Portuguese woman shared the following poem from one of her countrymen, Fernando Pessoa. I loved it and thought I would share it.

If, After I Die

If, after I die, they should want to write my biography,
There's nothing simpler.
I've just two dates - of my birth, and of my death.
In between the one thing and the other all the days are
	mine.

I am easy to describe.
I lived like mad.
I loved things without any sentimentality.
I never had a desire I could not fulfil, because
	I never went blind.
Even hearing was to me never more than an
	accompaniment of seeing.
I understood that things are real and all different from
	each other;
I understood it with the eyes, never with thinking.
To understand it with thinking would be to find them
	all equal.

One day I felt sleepy like a child.
I closed my eyes and slept.
And by the way, I was only Nature poet.

More poems

more poems

Old, as in within the last decade. I’ve been re-watching Firefly, catching episodes I either missed or don’t remember. It is interesting to watch it with the Steampunk filter. I catch details I missed before. Also on deck has been Earth 2. Interestingly, it is another throwback to the American old west. A small group of people leave Earth to inhabit a new planet. They crash land and make a pilgrimmage to their original location. It comes across a lot like the Oregan Trail. Another smart series. Finally, I’ve been watching Threshold. Alien invasion. I missed it completely when it was first on. I can see why it wasn’t a huge hit - heavy on the science. But if you can keep up with the conversation, it is fascinating.
