I arrived in Vancouver about 14 hours after I left home yesterday. Considering one spends most of the time sitting around and waiting, it was an exhausting experience. My current theory is that the body is exhausted by the pull of gravity while in the plane. But that might have been the wild fantasies of a tired mind.

The hotel is lovely. My room is at the end of a dead end, so it is quiet. There are coffee shops within a block, not matter what direction you head in. I’m disappointed by all the construction taking place. I walked around for a while this morning, and the view of the harbor was almost entirely blocked. Nevertheless, it is warm enough to walk around (today’s high is 48). And there is actual moisture in the air. It felt good to sit outside and drink my coffee this morning. All of you in colder climates — envy me. :)

The hardest thing for me to adjust to at the moment is the time change, especially in respect to mealtimes. When I’m ready for lunch, the restaurants are still serving breakfast. Fortunately there are enough places to dine around the hotel that it isn’t hard to find something.

I am having fun with the pervasiveness of French. The signs and product package all have dual languages. Before I went to bed, I listen to a French-Canadian radio station. Considering I have actively listen to French in a year, I followed along pretty well.

BTW, I started a terrific book on the plane - The Book of Flying by Keith Miller. I love it, and I will have some kind of a review for you in the near future.

I leave for a conference in Vancouver on Monday. I have several projects to finish up at the office before I leave, but I’m really starting to get excited and can’t sit still.
